I write this letter with a heavy heart…
Our Dear Cousin Richard Fammeree has been diagnosed with a serious condition, ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease)!
Richard, Rachel and Adele need help!!!
They need ALL OF OUR PRAYERS! And also they need financial help. I’m reaching out to all to help in any way possible.

Dear Friends,
I am writing with sad news. Some of you know that Richard has been struggling with a neuromuscular illness over the last months. What we thought was a torn meniscus in his knee and then sciatica in his lower back has spread into a paralysis that is steadily taking over his body. As of today, Richard can only walk very short distances with a sturdy walker and he can no longer do the simplest things—like sit up in bed, brush his hair or sign his name. Most sadly, he cannot play the guitar or piano, so our home is not filled with the miraculous music it once was, (except on Tuesdays, when Richard and Carrie Ingrisano’s band St. Cloud practices here, cheering us all up).

Richard continues to inspire those around him with his spirit. He still works, writes poetry, runs UniVerse and does as much as possible independently, and his determination is absolutely heroic. He has been through a full battery of tests through the Northshore Hospital System and there has been diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease—a terrible degenerative condition for which there is still no treatment or cure. We are working with specialists at Northwestern and UIC to help us to navigate this situation, but in the meantime, we are doing extensive research into alternative therapies that will help Richard to improve his quality of life and, ideally, to heal.

Richard does acupuncture and shiatsu massage once a week (with the wonderful Steve Rogne, founder of the Zen Shiatsu Center) and we just began treatment through Dr. Mercola’s Natural Health Center and a natrapath named Jim Walters. These practitioners are brilliant and have many years of experience in holistic health care. Their treatment for Richard includes detox for heavy metals, repair of his gastro-intestinal tract through a special diet, active isolated stretching, emotional therapy, and restoration of key minerals that have been depleted in his body. These doctors understand that mysterious neurological conditions like ALS have many roots and routes, and they are giving us hope.

I am asking you to do the same. Richard has always had so much energy for all of US, few people would imagine how touched and excited he gets by the littlest email from a friend—a comment on a poem, song or UniVerse addition. Please send him your prayers and good thoughts. He has touched and inspired countless lives and is so very loved. Now is the time to let him know.

She mentioned she had visited her Aunt Ellen (LeCaptain) Naze
& Ellen asked that I share the picture below with all our Virtual Family!
It is a photo of a memorial for her Son Peter.
It is located on the Fox River Trail in remembrance of Judge Peter Naze.
He died April 1st 2009 at the age of 66. He was an avid biker and will be remembered for his love of the outdoors.
Peter was the son of Ellen LeCaptain Naze & Ben Naze.
Ellen was the Daughter of Odile Fameree LeCaptain & Joseph LeCaptain.

It is so nice for my children to be able to feel connected in this way.

Thank you also to Jane Corsten for the picture of my Grandmother Odile Fameree-LeCaptain and my Great Aunts. My Grandmother died April 24,1951, 6 days after I was born-the day I came home from the hospital. So I never was fortunate enough to know her. My Dad Charles LeCaptain said she was like a Saint and often said Jane so reminded him of his Mother. This picture will be very special to me and my family.

Ann & Jeff Pierre became Grandparents this past April
They have been married for 31 years and they are Parents to 3 very successful children are extremely proud.
Jeff is the eldest Son of Everett Pierre.
Their Son will be married in June & their youngest daughter is in her 1st year of Law School!

Hello Family of mine,

Happy Jean Babtiste Day !
Born April 1st 1810
He and his wife Claire who came over from Belgium in 1856 are responsible for ALL the Fameree’s in Wisconsin.
Dan & I shared a bottle of Belgian Beer in his honor!!!


















This past month has been a very busy one to say the least!!!
First of all, I hope everyone had a great Easter & are enjoying our world bloom into life.

BIG NEWS for me, I have finally decided to revert back to my maiden name, FAMEREE! YAY! (Why did you wait so long you ask??? As strange as it may sound I did it this way more for convenience & waited until my passport expired to make the change). In a small attempt to minimize the added hassle.
Dan & I took a mini vacation over the Easter break & we drove to Madison, Indiana & stayed at Clifty Falls State Park Inn. It was really nice had beautiful waterfalls, great hiking & an AMAZING all you can eat Buffet…UNBELIEVABLE!!!

I would like to mention that I really don’t want this FAMILY update to be so focused around myself & my immediate Family & My Vacations, However I need for ALL to participate at least once a month with a news update,ie news of a noteworthy event, engagement, wedding, a special birthday & picture you would like me to acknowledge, a memorial of a loved one , ANYTHING really, just a hi & enjoying the flowers today or this is my favorite recipe, would do… Even a snail mail note would do, I could scan special photos & return them.
For example,
* My Niece Jennifer will be having her Baby a Girl (McKensie) on Monday April 26th
* My Sister Jo-Anne & Niece Leah are going to Ireland this June
* My Garden is growing nicely & it makes me feel great…
* I can’t wait for the local Farmers Markets to start
* Dan & I are planning to attend the Studebaker car meet the first Saturday in May in South Bend, Indiana (we have a 63 Lark that Dan is fixing up to be a daily driver).


Here are some notes I received via snail mail from family members.

1st I received a very nice card with a very endearing note from Jane Ropson-Carsten. She wrote a very nice thank you telling me that with each Virtual Reunion she read it always made her smile! Jane also included a copy of a vintage photo of her grandmother Odile Fameree-LeCaptain & her 2 Sisters Kate Fameree-Wery & Caroline Fameree-Collin.(three daughters to Honore & Mary (Vlies) Fameree. I have scanned that picture & attached it for all to view.















Special thanks to Jane for making what I do worth while…

2nd I received a snail mail card from Nicole Fameree-Gall, with an update on her Family.

Family & Friends,
I apologize for the late update on our Family.
As you all know, Jeff came home in December from Korea & we made the move to Japan in January. We are adjusting to the cold and getting settled into what will be our home for the next 3 years.
Kalix misses being in preschool, so to occupy his time during the day we joined a playgroup and kinder jam. He’s starting to read simple sentences on his own & is showing interest in simple addition and reading the clock. He isn’t even 4 yet! He is just amazing!
Nori is growing like a weed! It’s hard to find clothes that she can wear for more than 2 months she is just so long! She is making attempts to standing on her own, taking a couple steps as well, and has become quite vocal. She’s definitely trying to keep up with her Brother. She is amazing as well!
Jeff is busy with work & studying for his test for tech.
As for myself, I’ve got my hands full with my beautiful Children and will be starting school very soon.

The Green Christs

I follow my great-grandfather. He can barely walk and he can barely talk.
He is two years old.
His brother Eugène is already six. Eugène will stay here in Belgium, and my great-grandfather will marry a woman in Chicago whose mother wears a mantilla before the fire in the parlor as horses clop past toward Halsted Street.
My great-grandfather carries a soiled green bear whose name is Lala.
The little bear’s red jacket is very red and brocaded.
Eugene and his wife are buried next to the tomb of his parents. Their names and dates are faint,and the Christs have turned green.
Where the sun was an egg yolk and now peach, nine sheep, one donkey and a rooster rehearse for Christmas eve beneath an apple tree.
My great-grandfather, who last stood in this churchyard in 1883, is buried alone with his wife Flora near O’Hare Airport. Only I know the graves now.
My great-grandfather and Lala stumble toward his mother.
She offers me half a plum from their garden and eats the other half, then opens another.
She offers half to me and half to her son.
--Shake the tree, Richard, and the fruit which fall is ripe. And always open a plum before tasting it.
Her fingers are stained and strong and fine. She could play piano. A neighbor,
the soprano, begins to sing. My great-great-grandmother’s eyes, sotto voce, focus separately upon the bluing and swaying. She has Ruth’s eyes, and she wears no jewelry. Her last roses are old and big as breakfast bowls.
She plucks a petal between a tall burgundy door and a tall burgundy window.
--You should have come earlier, then you would have seen them. They were beautiful--and everywhere.

I also have more exciting information, On my last trip home I was once again going thru some vintage photos from on my Mom’s side of the Family & I came across an old Church Parish Centennial written by our relative Franklin J Bader (Grandson of Caroline Fameree-Collin), in this booklet there was much information regarding St Louis Church in Dykesville, Wisconsin & how many of the early Belgian Settlers ended up in the Dykesville area.I also discovered a wonderful treat in this booklet there was a photo of an antique Spinning Wheel, I suspected it was the Spinning Wheel that Came to the USA along with Jean Babtiste & his Wife Claire .I made a call to Franklin Bader today & confirmed that this is the Fammeree Family Spinning Wheel (which he still has).We had a very nice conversation & Franklin even shared that he is going to be a granddad again his Son Joe & Wife Kristen are expecting their child in October.Congratulations to the Bader family!

It is Jean Babtiste & his Wife Claire Anne Joseph Stuter-Fameree, who are indirectly responsible for ALL Fameree's in the Wisconsin area!!! WOW... So, Going Forward we will have our own little self declared Belgian Family Holiday, every April 1st we will celebrate... John Babtiste Day.
In the past 3 years since I declared this holiday, I try to make a traditional Belgian meal of either Chicken Booyah, Gallettes or at the very least have a drink of Belgian Beer

(American made Blue Moon is pretty good)

I have included the recipes for Chicken Booyah & Gallettes so those of you who don’t have them
Chicken Booyah
1 whole Chicken (a stewing or broiler chicken works best)
Salt & Pepper to taste
1 Large Onion
2 Tablespoons Chicken base or bouillion cubes (6 or 8)
2 or 3 Bay leaves & 2 or 3 Garlic cloves (to be removed from kettle when Booyah is done)(side note; Mary Kaye would never put garlic in her Booyah)

Boil chicken until meat falls off the bone, (several hours) , then remove chicken from kettle & take meat off the bones & cut up the meat into small chunks.

put the Chicken chunks back into the broth and add
4 large carrots chopped
4 to 5 potatoes chopped
1 stalk of celery chopped
you can also add a small bag of frozen veggetables.

bring this back to a boil then lower heat to simmer for 3 to 4 hours.

at this point it is ready to eat
(I like to add egg noodles) just turn heat off add 2 handfulls of egg noodles & let sit for 30 minutes.
Then Enjoy!!!

Gallettes
2 cups (500 ML) flour
2 Tablespoons (30 ML) sugar
1 Tablespoon (15 ML) baking powder
1 teaaspoon (5ML) salt
1 3/4 cups(440 ML) milk
1/3 cup (85ml) vegetable oil
2 eggs

Combine flour,sugar,baking powder and salt.
Stir together milk,oil and eggs.
gradually add milk mixture to the dry ingredients.
stir until just blended.
Pour into Waffle baker.

cook for approx 5 minutes

then allow waffles to cool.
Put waffles in large bowl and set aside.

in a small pan warm milk,maybe 1 or 2 cups
add sugar & cinnamon to taste.

pour over the waffles & cover with a small plate & plce something heavy on the plate,
so the waffles absorb the warm milk.

then scoup out spoonfuls & serve
