Virtual Reunion December 2009

December 2009
Hello Dear Family,

I would like to wish all of you & your Families a blessed Christmas /Joyeux Noel !

Charlie Brown: Isn't there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?

Linus Van Pelt: Sure, Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about.

Linus Van Pelt: Lights, please.

Linus Van Pelt: "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were so afraid. And the angel said unto them, 'Fear not: for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you, born this day in the City of David, a Savior, which is, Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.'" [Linus picks up his blanket and walks back towards Charlie Brown]

Linus Van Pelt: That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.

This past Month has been such a whirlwind of events for me. please forgive my tardiness!
Thank you all for understanding the crazy email situation I have been through. For those of you who don’t know what happened, my personal email account was HACKED into & therefore much of what I do has been compromised…Any way I never went to Scotland, nor was I robbed & NO I don’t need you to send money via wire, as an email sent to my entire address book implied. BE VERY CAREFUL, This can be dangerous; luckily I have FRAUD BUSTERS ON MY SIDE… (JOKING) Well, the sale of my home finally went thru, although I really thought was not going to happen!!! On November 6th I became a homeowner once again & although there has been a tremendous amount of work that Dan & I have done so far, I really love it!!!There are so many simple pleasures that bring me great joy, like my Sister’s Ida & Jo-Anne coming to my rescue to help paint & get things organized, watching the birds find & enjoy my new birdfeeders given to my from Ida, listening to the soft gentle tunes coming from a beautiful chime that was given to me from Jo-Anne. Admiring Dan’s handy work in hooking our new washer & dryer up not once but twice!!! & also his Love & patience throughout this whole ordeal for the past several months is AWESOME! THANK YOU!

This leads me right into…

An English November
I stood here beside this red post this dog postI stood here because I did not want to see the waythe pastor the mirror the four bevelled corners had used words however accurate however bronze and fragrant and I said faintas in fabled and you said sullen as in silken the way silk falls
somewhere in this tented street this lane again obscured by moonlight more vaporous langorous less suspicious
less deliberate than each humming lamp cold milk turning cold each of us humming fraying mumming I could have told you but the progression to prayer was not what you wanted to hear not that night before the fire in the grating in the pub the grazing the green viridian and oaken walls and glasses glowing golden within and without as if time were caught in the sap of Hennessy slowing to the tempo of the chair in the door frame hovering unpainted guarding us
from the future glass within glass within glass each of us stepping back to that
moment each of us silvery curtains of filagree and trees each tree bowing
never failing whipped by wet wind still dripping never ending enduring never lime brushes turning black turning back turning godly lit into a gilt Constable skya telephone a telephone a telephone burrowing into absenceabsence into absence into milky abstinence quiet into rain into rain lingering on the other side of The Four Quartets 17 c. quadrants of glass sky tree facade reflection through a glass and a glass darkly

"The Responders"

I received a Face Book note from Emily Pierre Samson

"just shared your blog post with my mom and dad. you do such a nice job! thank you!!"

I then sent the following email to Hugues Fameree from Belgium (we are still trying to figure out the connecting branch to his Family Ours)

Hello Hugues,

I hope you are well & you had a beautiful summer.
I think I have more information regarding 2 more generations of your family!
I will past it in this email.
It appears as though Pierre's Father was Jean Henri (born in 1754)
Jean Henri's Father was Henri (born in 1712).
I have copied Joseph Fameree from Schaltin in hopes he can connect his family branch to yours.
Now the big challenge is how do your Family branch tie with Mine back to Nichola Famre(as written in old records) born in 1704???
Please let me know if this helps you.
Hugues Response was
Hello Jean,Wonderful! These are definitely 2 new layers in the family tree. I think that there some people here in the region are working on encoding paper registers on specialized webs. So, month after month, we will get the opportunity to discover additional information and perhaps the missing link.Best regards, Hugues
Hugues added
Hello Jean, It's me again. A striking find, I've had on the basis of your information, is that Schaltin appears still to be the root base of my branch.
Best regards, Hugues
I then replied

The information I have regarding my branch is that the oldest person is Nichola born around 1704 in the Dept of Ourth or near the Ourth River, is this area close to Schaltin?
I truly believe we have to be close, Henri & Nichola are only 8 years apart (Could they be brothers? cousins?) much more investigating to be done!!!
Keep in touch. Sincerely, Jeanne

Hugues wrote

The Ourthe department is an administrative division of our region when it was part of France, some centuries ago. Today, it corresponds about to the County of Liège, but was a little bit smaller than this County. Schaltin wasn't on that territory. This village is at about at 25 miles of the closest part of the river Ourthe and at 30 miles of Longueville. Today I would say it isn’t that far, but 300 years ago I suspect it was quite a significant distance. You told me once that there was a Mathieu Famerée at the eight generation preceding Joseph: I wouldn't be much surprised if we find in a next step that he was the father of the Henri 1712, but it is purely speculative.Best regards, Hugues

I replied

Thanks for all this information.
Yes, I agree that the answer to our connection lies with Mathieu.
I will continue monitoring the Geneanet site & others for more clues.
Kind regards, Jeanne

I then received the following from another Fameree member from Schaltin Belgium, Joseph Fameree , (we have not yet connected our branches either)

In French
Cordialement,Joseph FAMEREE
In English
Hello dear family,Schaltin is located in the province of Namur, 20 kms to the Ourthe (Nettinne) Longueville is more or less 40 km in the province of Liege.I intend to go there to check if there are still family Fameree.Best regards,

Next I received an add on email from Amy Pierre Brownson,
Regarding the WOW story from last month
Jean,I am sorry that I haven't gotten back to you with your questions. My daughter Theresa was married this past weekend so I was busy working on preparations and such.
THE IDEA FOR WOW STARTED AT A BRIDAL SHOWER FOR MY SISTER-IN LAW, NICOLE PIERRE, AT MY HOUSE WHEN WE WERE TALKING ABOUT HOW WOMEN SHOULD HAVE A WEEKEND OR SOMETHING THAT WAS AN ABSOLUTE MUST TO ATTEND, JUST LIKE MEN HAVE DEER HUNTING. MY SISTER LAURIE SAID SHE WOULD INVITE ANYONE WHO WANTED TO STAY AT HER PLACE FOR A WEEKEND THAT NEXT FALL. SOMEHOW WE DUBBED IN W.O.W. THAT YEAR ABOUT 18 AUNTS, COUSINS AND COUSINS KIDS GOT TOGETHER IN PEWAUKEE. WE ARE ALL THE RELATIVES/DESENDANTS OF MARY FAMEREE PIERRE.
AFTER THAT FIRST ONE, I SAID I WOULD PLAN THE NEXT ONE. THAT ONE WAS AT CAMP TEKAWITHA NEAR SHAWANO. SINCE THEN EACH YEAR OR SOMETIMES EVERY OTHER YEAR A DIFFERENT COUSIN IS IN CHARGE OF PLANNING THE WEEKEND. SOMEONE JUST VOLUNTEERS TO DO IT. WE HAVE HAD THE WEEKEND IN VARIOUS LOCATIONS AROUND WISCONSIN: GREEN LAKE, SHEOYGAN, DOOR COUNTY, ETC...
THERE IS NO ONE MAIN DRIVER WE JUST ALL PITCH IN TO MAKE IT HAPPEN ONCE THE LOCATION IS DECIDED. LIKE SHARING IN THE MAKING OF FOOD AND CAR POOLING, ETC... WOW IS USUALLY THE LAST WEEKEND IN SEPTEMBER.
IT IS A GREAT WAY TO KEEP OUR FAMILY CONNECTED. I LOVE HOW OUR CHILDREN, MANY YOUNG WOMEN, WANT TO COME AND LOOK FORWARD TO IT YEARLY. I LIKE HOW WE CAN SHARE OUR FAMILY STORIES ABOUT GROWING UP WITH THEM AND HOW THE NEWLY MARRIEDS CAN GIVE SUPPORT AND ADVICE TO THE YOUNGER ONES IN COLLEGE AND HIGH SCHOOL. WE GO TO MASS TOGETHER. SHARING FAITH WITH FAMILY IS A HIGHLIGHT FOR ME.
The next email is from Sylvie Rigot in Belgium
Hello Jean,I am happy that you are safe. I was very troubled after "your” message from Scotland. I found something not very clear and I was very happy when I received Richard's message about the hacker.I am sorry that you have had so many problems with your moving and the searching of a home. We are so busy, here in my home, with the works in our house that I don’t have time to send you pictures of our family but I will try to do that. I wish you the best things for Thanksgiving.Friendly yours, Sylvie, from Belgium

May you always have love to share, Health to spare & Friends that care!

Merry Christmas /Joyeux Noel
God Bless Everyone!!!
Sincerely, Jeanne

Virtual Reunion November 2009

November 2009

Hello Family,

Many of you are asking how my move went, WELL it’s a sad story, I have been approved for my loan since 9/15, I was SUPPOSED TO CLOSE 9/29! WELL THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN! Due to the fact it is a BLEEPIN SHORT SALE (meaning the house is being sold for less than is owed on it) the Sellers lender (the people who will take the financial hit) are holding everything up. My rate lock expires 11/3 & if I don't hear any positive info the deal is off & I END UP TAKING A HIT TO MY FINANCES!!! WHAT A BUMMER!!! Stay tuned next month for an update! (With lots of prayers & a miracle, it may work out)
Thanks to all who are saying prayers for me & my SANITY!

Now, I want to share a feel good story with you.
In the last month I have learned about a cool family get together called “WOW”
“WOW” is a celebration in the Mary Fameree-Pierre Branch of our Family tree,

Mary is the oldest Daughter of Frank & Ernestine Fameree,

Frank is my Grandpa Joe, Aunt Kate Fameree-Wery , Jean aka John, Caroline Fameree-Collin, Odile Fameree-LeCaptain’s Brother, the Son of Honore Fameree who is the Son of Jean Babtiste (Jean Babtiste & his wife Claire) came to the USA with an adult Daughter Marie Joseph & Honore 7yrs old) in 1856.
Sorry for being so long winded with the history...
Here is the story of “WOW”, as told mostly by Mary Ann Pierre-Johnson (Mary Fameree-Pierre’s oldest Grandchild)
WOW stands for “Women Only Weekend”. It is the gathering of the Pierre Women (Descendants of Mary Josephine Fameree-Pierre). We started gathering about 6 years ago. I believe Amy Pierre Brownson and Laurie Pierre Fernandez were the first to organize this event. Cousins and Aunts and women married to Pierre men are welcome. We gather every fall for a weekend. Cousins take turns planning the event. We have a ‘family and friends’ plate that gets passed each year to the organizer of the event. Her name goes on the back of the plate with the year and she gets to guard and use the plate for the coming year. We have been to Milwaukee for a shopping day and overnight (Hosted by Laurie Fernandez-- at her home). We have been to Camp Tekawitha in Shawano County a couple of times (most of us cousins and our children attended camp there as children). We stayed at the Baptist Assembly in Green Lake one year (We had three large homes right next to each other). We have been to Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan and to Door County (This past fall—again we stayed in 3 large fully furnished condominiums). We take turns hosting the meals for the weekend—usually only involves a couple, but we all love to cook and bake, so divided among several family members, up it isn’t a big chore. We shop, hike, bike, swim, canoe, activities depend on the location. It is cherished time spent with family we don’t get to see often enough. It is great for our daughters and daughters-in-laws to experience the multi-generational family experience.
We call the 5 aunts our “Queens”, (The”queens” are my Aunts, 3.Winifred Pierre Wittlin—Married to Gerald Wittlin (my Dad’s Sister) oldest daughter of Mary Fameree Pierre
4. Nathalie Pierre Steede married to Bill Steede who is deceased) (my Dad’s Sister) daughter of Mary Fameree Pierre 1. Joyce Pierre (nee Wittlin) married to (my Dad’s Brother) Wayne Pierre, oldest son of Mary Fameree Pierre 5. Carol Pierre *(nee Henn) married to (my Dad’s Brother) Perry Pierre, youngest son of Mary Fameree Pierre, my Mom 2. Helen Pierre (nee Young) (married to my Dad), Everett Pierre middle son of Mary Fameree Pierre. (numbers correspond to birth order of Mary Fameree-Pierre’s children)

We laugh a lot, share food, family memories; catch up on each other’s lives. We set a date and location early in the year and everyone who can and wants to, makes it happen! The numbers vary each year, but usually about 30 of us show up. As far as note worthy….what happens at W.O.W. stays at W.O.W. Except of course for those precious memories each of us carries in our hearts.
As EE Comings the poet says, and I quote
“Here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the budand the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide) and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart.I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart)”
Maybe some other cousins will add more to the story… Peace Mary Ann

The following note was sent by Emily Brownson Granddaughter of Wayne Pierre (oldest Son of Mary Fameree-Pierre)
WOW: “Women’s Only Weekend” began because of a successful and fun wedding shower that lead to discussion that the women should get together on a regular basis. You know the extended family of men tend to gather for deer hunting ect. We should too. I think my Mother Amy Brownson was the instigator....She would probably know more details! Attached is the best picture I think I took from that weekend

from l to r: Marie Koch (Pierre) Amy Brownson (Pierre) Joyce Pierre

The next email was sent by Ann Pierre, Daughter in law of Everett Pierre Mary’s middle Son

Jean --
Here are a few photos from which to choose for your project. The Leeman photo is of Mary and Wilfred Pierre in their general store. The other is, of course, a more recent photo of the Pierre matriarch. I've also included the latest group photo of the 2009 Pierre WOW held in Door County. Mary's daughters are seated on the sofa, Winifred in the red, Nathalie in the pink sweater. Between them is Helen (Everett's wife) and seated on the end is Joyce, (Wayne's wife). Standing behind Winifred is Perry's wife, Carol. The rest of the beautiful faces surrounding them are the balance of the 3 1/3 generations that follow Mary Pierre including a wife and a fiancé of two of her great grandsons. My oldest daughter, Carolyn is expecting Everett and Helen's first great-grandchild in April. Wayne and Joyce have been great-grandparents for a couple years already.

The WOW is a wonderful celebration of the strength of the women in the Pierre family...those born with Mary's blood courses through their veins and those lucky enough to have "inherited" her spunk through marriage.
Here's to good women...May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.
Ann Pierre (blessed to be married to Everett's oldest son, Jeff)

The pictures of the WOW event are compliments of Emily Pierre-Samson Daughter of Perry Pierre (Mary Fameree-Pierre’s youngest Son) & Ann Pierre Everett Pierre’s Daughter in law

I admire this branch of our Family for their ability to keep this large Family connected the way they do!!!
I wish I had been able to meet Mary Fameree-Pierre!
What a wonderful Family she raised & instilled this strong sense of who they are the celebration of life & Family, such inspiration!!!
(I once shared a meal with many members of this branch & they shared a tradition with me which was their own version of Grace), spoken before meals, “Bless us oh lord for these thy gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty to Christ our Lord.
(They added) May the Souls of the faithfully departed rest in peace. Amen
I thought it was a nice!

Orpheus Recusant
In this widowed room I repeat the lessons of my senescent heart, bead by bead.
I ready myself for the opening of the bitter book which counsels your faith and
the colored book attending with cap and bells the approach of our impatient story:Attic blessed, fluted with Lydian melancholies, the umbria implicit in your breastWe adorn ourselves with tears and amethyst as children of the QueenNo eclipse will ever elicit a denial between us this hand-pressed netting, this veil of brides, this storied fabric winding its whisperings about us, sleeplesslycompelling our mouths together for breath, for birth: I now assume Botticelli’s lovefor youAnd if time were to abandon us in some unmeasured embrace, I would rest beside youuntil we were chosen to be brought forth again from the cold.Orpheus Recusant [#49]© 2000 Fammerée* * * * *“Orpheus Recusant” appears in Lessons of Water & Thirst, a book of poems by Richard Fammerée.
