Here we are again, yet another month has passed.

This past month has brought much worry to my immediate Family as My Dad is having concerning health issues; His Heart is having a difficult time keeping up.My Dad, Sisters & I have been praying a Novena for his health to improve.
Any Prayers from You & Yours would be welcomed & appreciated.

February 3rd Brings A memory of a church mass celebration of St. Blaise. My whole Family would attend this church mass in which we would have our throats blessed. I did a little research on the history & this is what I learned.
Many Catholics might remember Saint Blaise's feast day because of the Blessing of the Throats that took place on this day. Two candles are blessed, held slightly open, and pressed against the throat as the blessing is said. Saint Blaise's protection of those with throat troubles apparently comes from a legend that a boy was brought to him who had a fishbone stuck in his throat. The boy was about to die when Saint Blaise healed him.

In Belgium this day is also celebrated but referred to as Candle Day!

This day is also known to us as Ground Hog’s Day!
If the Ground Hog sees his shadow in the morning this means 6 more weeks of winter.
In Belgium they claim that if the sun shines on the Church steeple During Candle Day Mass, This predicts six more weeks of winter!
Another saying is if the weather is warm enough on Candlemass day to eat pancakes outside, it will be cold and they will eat their Easter eggs by the fireside at Easter.
Kind of like our saying if March comes in like a Lamb it will go out like a Lion!

This reminds me of this Belgian saying my Dad used to say while referring to the First of the year.
(Spelled Phonetically)…
On Novella, Au Pod de fon.
Translated means the first of the year is like the step of a child, a little longer every day.
(cute saying & has stayed with me a long time)

February also brings Valentines Day!
In the US & In Belgium
Valentine's Day, celebrated on February 14, is a time to display love and affection. People send cards, candy, or flowers as valentines to their sweethearts, friends, and family.

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.
-Helen Keller

"The Responders"

1st an email I sent to Richard & Rachel
Hi R& R
Thank you again for having me & Allowing me to take over your kitchen in order to share some of the Wisconsin Fameree Traditions.
I had a real nice time & I really feel Adele likes my company as well.
What dear sweet Family. Sincerely Jeanne

Rachel’s Response

Dear Jean,Thanks so much for coming last week! We had a terrific time! You really made our week. Thanks for bringing such a breath of fresh air (and such delicious gallettes!) with you.Adele looks at her book every day and her bracelet (really! She keeps it in her jewelry box and pulls it out.) and she sleeps with her bear. We took off his hat and stocking, so now he is ready for anything. Thanks for being you, Jean! We love you. And we look forward to coming to see you soon.Love, Rachel, Richard and Adele

Next comes a poem That Rachel Wrote that I would like to share.

The New WorldThe flamecupped so long in the hold with the shackles and rationsbraves its bright tongue to the air and catches now its light pours forth like the watersshining our eyes***With gratitude to President Barack Obama and his beautiful family for their courage, grace and example of excellence. They inspire me to look inward at what is yet guarded and undeveloped and then give that light more fully to the world. We all travel a middle passagefrom what we have believed possible to what we must make possible.May we each come to arrive on the terrainof our real, unfolding livesand these exciting unfolding times. In Joy!Rachel Jamison Webster

I then received an email from Joseph Fameree, Belgium
Chers tous,Nous vous présentons nos félicitations et nos voeux de progrès pour l"Amérique et le monde à l'occasion de l'installation de votre nouveau président.Cordialement,Famille Joseph Famerée, Schaltin (Belgique)

In English

Dear all, We extend our congratulations and our best wishes for the progress of America and the world at the installation of your new president. Best regards, Joseph Famerée family, Schaltin (Belgium)

Then, Richard sent an email to Belgium in search of information about our ancestors.

Dear M. le Bourgmestre Luc Jadot, I have reason to believe that my family roots are in Schaltin. Father Joseph Famerée (born in Emptinne in 1955) informed us that Mathieu Famerée married Marie Ramelot in Schaltin on November 25, 1703.He says this was eight generations ago.Seven generations ago, my direct ancestor Nicolas Famerée (or Famre) left the département de l’Ourthe and settled in Longueville, closer to Brussels. My cousin Frédéric still lives nearby in Hamme-Mille. This is from my initial inquiries : “Nicolas Famre décédé a Longueville le 27 janvier 1807 etait agé de 80 ans et né a Galla (?) département de l’Ourthe. . . fils de Nicolas Famre, agé de nonante. . . . [I attach the original letter].”I believe we are related to Mathieu. He may have been an uncle or cousin or older brother to Nicolas. He may even have been his father. Please help me research this information.
