Hello Dear Family,
I write this update with a heavy heart & I apologize for my tardiness.
I’d like to dedicate this
Virtual Family Reunion – A Living Family Tree
to my Dad Jule Fameree.
A special thanks to all of our Family & Friends who gave us support in kind deeds & words of encouragement.
There were so many people that came and paid tribute, it really touched our hearts.

On the positive side I met so many Fameree relatives that I never met before & also relatives who I just met since we started our virtual reunion!
I received many compliments regarding the blog site as well as the snail mail versions. Some relatives promised to send more information about their immediate families & even some relatives brought pictures that I can scan & use for our future updates or archives.
Another positive event that occurred on February 21st was a Belgian Pie Making Fest.
I was invited to Mary Ann Pierre-Johnson’s home In Appleton, along with many of Mary Fameree-Pierre’s Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren.
Mary Ann had her Grandmother’s recipes & had all the supplies needed to make approx 30 or 40 pies.
She was a great teacher & we all walked away from the experience with pies & stories to share. I can’t thank you enough Mary Ann!!! I will cherish the shared recipes & the experience forever!

"The Responders"

The 1st email is from Amy Pierre-Browson to Mary Ann Pierre-Johnson regarding the Pie Fest
Mary Anne,
I heard the wedding of your son went well this past weekend. Congratulations. Just checking to see if we are still on board with pie making on 2/21. Could you give me the recipe for making the fillings. I could make blueberry ahead with some frozen ones I have and I may have some raspberries too. Thanks Amy
Next Mary Ann Pierre-Johnson sent me an email
Are we still on for Pie Fest on the 21st. Let me know what time you can be here and want to start. I am up for any time in the morning.
Attached please find a photo of my family from Christmas and one from our weekend wedding when our son Nate married Rebecca Lingnofski on a magical day.(our 33rd wedding anniversary).
I hope you had a good January. Looking forward to celebrating our Belgian heritage. Mary Ann
My reply to Mary Ann
Hi Mary Ann,
Thanks so much for sending the pix (they will be included in the next Blog updating) Could you send an email to let me know who is who in the Pix?
As for Pie making I have been looking forward to it & I will be home that weekend, however my dad has been pretty ill these days & I may not be able to come but I won't know til the last minute (sorry for any inconveniences) if you give me your phone # I will be able to keep in touch to tell you if I can be there or not on the 21st. I really do want to come though. Thanks again. Jean
Mary Ann’s Response
Jeanne,
I hope your father is improving. No worries. If you can’t make the Pie Fest we will do it some other time. Just let me know.
In the family photo from Christmas eve that I sent you, from left to right are my husband of 33 years, Mel Johnson, our youngest son Michael Johnson, age 20, his girl friend of two years, Abbey Van de Hey, our daughter Sarah Johnson is in the middle( both on the photo and in our family), and then the new bride, Rebecca Lingnofski Johnson, Mary Ann Johnson (me) in the black dress, and on the right is our oldest son Nathan Johnson. In the wedding photo, married January 31, 2009. Nate and Becky Johnson our oldest son and new daughter in law.
I then sent
Well I'm thinking this can work (if it's not too late).
I will need to know what to bring? It will be just me I'm thinking, Maybe 1 Sister? not sure, as someone needs to stay with Dad.
I will search for any Belgian recipes I have. Sincerely, Jeanne
Mary Ann said
Jeanne,
It is not too late. We had decided to do pies regardless so we are still on! I did most of the shopping last Sunday. I have a couple of younger cousins who wanted to join in, so they are coming. My sister is coming from Mequon with her daughter. Don’t know how many of my aunts are coming just to visit. I hope some. It will be a houseful. I have the Belgian pie recipe all copied for everyone. We will do an assembly line, and I will try to float and answer questions. I will not make any of the fillings ahead so that everyone can have a task and be part of the process. We are going to start about 9:30 or so. Come whenever you can make it. Don’t know if Amy is videotaping any of it or not.
If you want to bring a couple of pie plates with your name labeled on them that is all you need. The cost of the groceries was about 30.00 so if everyone puts a couple bucks in the kitty to cover it, that is all good. Does your dad have a favorite kind of pie? We will be sending pies home with everyone! Hope you can make it, but if it doesn’t work, please don’t worry. We will do it again another time when it is more convenient for you.
I am looking forward to meeting you. Call if you are stuck! Or you can’t make it, just so we know.
I then added
Would you like me to make a large kettle of Chicken Booyah (a Belgian Delicacy), it's not that hard to make & it would be a nice lunch treat for all attending.
let me know. Oh, I think Dad's favorite is prune.
Do you use the cream center for your pies?
Should I bring a rolling pin? I will bring all the pans I have; I think 5 or 6 of them. Mom used to have like 50 of them, I think after she passed most of them were thrown out...let me know your thoughts.Jean
Mary Ann said
Chicken Booyah would be wonderful!!! I do have a pot of chili made, but I know all would love to have Booyah. We had it cooked over an open wood fire last February-- outdoors, at our annual family gathering in the snowy woods. My Uncle Perry hired a man to come and make it in a huge caldron for all of us. We’d love for you to make a pot. Can we put it in a slow cooker, as the stove will be very busy. I use whipped cream on the prune and rice pies, and a cheese topping on the apple, poppy seed, --raisin can go either way, cheese or cream. No rolling pin necessary, we pat the dough in the pie plates. Keep the thoughts coming…
Mary Ann
Then Amy Pierre-Brownson sent the following
Just getting in on this again! I think it would be fun to videotape the pie fest activities. My brother Peter,”it was his idea" said if we would tape it, he could make DVD's relatively easy. Pete, Is that still the case? Then we could give a DVD and recipe to interested family members. Like at WOW weekend. I don't have a video camera, but if my sister Laurie would come, we could use hers. Marie may have one also. I can look into that. Julia Child, look out : - ) Amy
Then Laurie Pierre Fernandez emailed
I talked to my girls last nite and Eva and Claire are up for some pie making. Eva's favorite food in all of the world is pie.... she has not had much experience with Belgian pie. I have to work out the details, but if I come what can I bring?
Kathy Ducat sent me this email,
Hi Jeanne,
Thank you for continuing to update the family web site.
Hopeful that your dad is feeling the warmth and love as his extended
family sends thoughts and prayers his way.
Wishing you and your family blessings. Kathy
I then received an email from Roy Denamur a relative from my Grandma Ida Berger-Fameree’s side.
Very well done, Lot of work, I enjoyed the blog site. Thanks, Roy
Harriet Collin-Ducat sent the next email
Can anyone interpret this poem? We tried a language translation, but did not make sense. See what can be done. It is a hand kerchief framed with this poem written on it. This came from Roland's Aunt, Libbie and Cy DeJardin. They went to Belgium in 1972. The author is( j.Spinosa-Mathot)
Thank you very much.
Harriet Ducat

El viye n'a nin dandji d' semele

Tu vous m' doner in d'bout d' tchandele?

Tant des saqwes!... De t' mwin a l' mene
C'est l' tene ses',el meskene.
Pou l' plaiji d' doner s' paradis:

I then sent an email to several of our Belgian Relatives
Please see the request below from our Cousin Harriet Collin-Ducat (her grandmother was Caroline Fameree-Collin, who was the Daughter of Honore & Mary Fameree. My guess is this is the Walloon Belgian dialect.
Then Sylvie Rigot from Belgium responded
Dear Jean,
I am very sorry. It seems to be a Walloon dialect, I do not know this one. I know better another one, which is named "Picard" and which is a French dialect (from Tournai - Lille- Valencienne - Armentière and around). But maybe Fred, Annie and Catherine Fameree can help you better than I. Good luck Sylvie
Like A true Fameree, Sylvie kept trying to help with the poem & initiate more help as follows…
Chers, Dears,
With the help of one friend of my work who lives around Gembloux , in red a better translation or a translation.

Laiche me router dins mes potias...
El viye n'a nin dandji d' semele
Tu vous m' doner in d'bout d' tchandele?
Tu t' prinds pou l' bon Dieu?
Mins pou l' trouver, faut tchessi fou
Pou l' plaiji d' doner s' paradis:

Then Simon Rigot comes to the rescue with the translation
De quel droit
What is your right
Because you are a lucky guy
Now you think you are god
De quel droit
What is your right
De quel droit tu te mèles
What is your right to try
De faire pleuvoir du soleil?
to make raining the sun
Leave me alone
I dont feel good
Life doesn't need a sole
to keep on crushing the nettles
Do you want to give me one of an end of your candle
Dis de quel droit
What is your right
Tu te prends pour le bon dieu
You think you are god
It isnt right that my heart is too good
Is that your business?Hapiness is for everybody
But to find it you have to work a lot
So many things, from your hand to mine
C'est la tienne celle-là, ta servante
She is yours this one, your servant
Pour le plaisir de donner son paradis
For the pleasure to give his paradise
God must say thank you

Well for me it doesn't make sense at all. (Says Simon)

Harriet Responded
Crazy, but it does not make sense to me neither. Wow, seems like some strong words in the verse. I hope Roland's aunt and uncle did not have it interpreted neither. They were very kind and loving relatives to everyone. Thank you so much for your help in this and for everything else you are doing. Was Mary;s daughter in the L-C musical this year? I did not get to it. Lot of craziness in our lives, loosing Mom and then Roland's aunt, was a lot on my plate. But with the good Lord's prayers and help we get through these things in life.
God bless you and your family and waiting to hear from you again.
Harriet Ducat
Then Richard sent this email to Simon & Sylvie
Sylvie, Simon, Do you have SKYPE?
Thanks for helping with the poem. Jeanne has such a good heart. . . .
Love, Richard

Don’t Forget to Celebrate Jean Babtiste Day on April 1st
He and his wife Claire who came over from Belgium in 1856 are responsible for ALL the Fameree’s in Wisconsin.
I will raise a Belgian Bottle of Beer in his honor!!!

Happy St. Patricks Day Everyone!!!

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand!
